WHOAA – “Candy Love”

Put this on full blast. It is a complete cure for all ailments. Everything you feel will mutate to pure joy. WHOAA is just plain exhilarating retro-pop sass. Her voice is like pure honey, but strong and mature. And once the rap verse goes by, it all feels like a warm wash of sound that is both grounding and inspiring. “Candy Love” is the project’s top 40 funky love-groove jam, presented gloriously in their animated, 16- bit video game music video.

The single takes you back to a time pop music was fun and generally known for serving as big and flashy mirrors to reflect the fashion trends, sexuality, unconditional love and dance moves. It’s a party song with a head spinning sound that leaves you breathless.

The duo joined forces in 2015 and have been working on their retro-pop sound ever since, involving a variety of talents in the process. Including Grammy-winning Engineer Ken Lewis (Drake, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye West). The result is feel good music at its best and the track is pure bliss.

It’s impeccably fun, lush, catchy electro-pop with sparkling composition, a heart-thumping beat and deliciously exorbitant lyrics. The pair’s charming and flamboyant personalities comes out strongly through the record. Their performances are subtly intelligent, consistently artful, and wildly infectious.

Obviously “Candy Love’s” existential purpose is to be played in a club or on FM radio. But if you own this track, you can use it to make pretty much any moment of your life a lot more fun. Slick 80’s retro-pop grooves with killer modern hooks will keep you listening to this track over and over and over.

It feels simultaneously familiar and fresh at the same time. I also like that it’s not so overproduced and auto-tuned that within 5 years, it will feel dated and make you wonder why you bought it. You’re only regret may be leaving it on the shelf for that long.

For those of you who don’t know us, WHOAA is an Acronym for W.hen H.earts O.pen A.nd A.ttract. And when all the pieces fall into place in WHOAA’s sound, there aren’t many bands that exude this much unadulterated party-starting energy. “Candy Love” should be topping the charts everywhere if there is any justice in the world.
