John Vento – “America (The Saints Come Marching Home)”

“Extremists from both political spectrums are committing horrible acts of violence. Even though these groups represent a very small fraction of our citizenry, they seem to get all of the TV and social media coverage. When, in truth, most of us are peaceful and despise such violence.” – John Vento

These are troubled times on a global scale, and for a multiple of devasting reasons, yet the current socio-political climate in the United States, which has always been recognized as the land of the free, continues to draw attention from around the world. It is in these times of violence and upheaval that singer-songwriter, John Vento bring us his new single, “America (The Saints Come Marching Home)”. The track is the first single from the award-winning artist’s upcoming album project “Brick by Brick”.

According to co-writer and artist, Frank Ferraro, “The song was written to call out the injustices being committed by the people against its own people, by both the general population and those seated in power. It conjures up the ghosts of our past and holds them in parallel to the hurtful acts being committed today. ‘America’ is not a battle cry for more acts of destruction. It is a simple call for universal peace.”

Hence once again, John Vento – along with co-writer Frank Ferraro – shares his maturity, accumulated wisdom, and deeply personal insights with us on “America (The Saints Come Marching Home)”. He delivers the kind of immediate yearning, questing, angry spirit that characterize the best songs in Vento’s catalog.

John Vento’s musical output has always contained a scrupulous artistic vision and is constantly supported by a conscious mindset. “America (The Saints Come Marching Home)” feels like an authentic John Vento record should – it’s a rousing, soul-stirring anthem, introspective, intense, with insightful lyrics and a powerful aura of emotion that hits you right in the pit of your soul, like a Vento record should.

Apart from the organically-driven Americana template, with a powerful indigenous tribal flavor, the focus is on the words and John Vento’s voice, and you can’t much better than that. It is all at once epic, sweeping, majestic, and captures the nuances of its messages perfectly.

What is remarkable about John Vento is not simply that he is a fine singer songwriter and singer, but the fact that over the years, he continues to release music that is relevant to our daily existence. As always, Vento’s performance is gritty and full of life, with deft, carefully crafted imagery, which show him to be a real artist, in the truest sense.

“America (The Saints Come Marching Home)” presents a soundscape that is both vibrantly alive and deeply American. When John Vento gets around to completing his next full length album of original tunes – “Brick by Brick” – let’s hope it maintains the qualities of this gem, because if it does, it’ll be another classic to add to his already exceptional catalog.
