Introducing Henry van der Zwan: The soulful resonance of “Guitar Noodles”

When one thinks of the soulful resonance of a guitar, seamlessly weaving through the realms of hard rock, metal, jazz, and blues, the name Henry van der Zwan, should come to mind. Hailing from Haarlem, The Netherlands, Henry’s musical odyssey commenced at the tender age of 15, although the guitar had always been a silent yet significant presence in his early life. His eclectic musical upbringing, absorbing genres from hard rock and metal to jazz, classical, and funk, laid the foundation for his multifaceted sound.

Henry’s formative years were steeped in the rich, electrifying waves of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). Bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest ignited his passion for the guitar, steering him towards a path that intertwined technical prowess with emotional depth. His early forays into music saw him performing with local bands such as Jack-A-Dandy in the early ’90s and later with Fuzzle, each experience adding layers to his burgeoning musical identity.

Fast forward to 2018, Henry joined Flashback Zaandam, a move that heralded a new chapter in his artistic journey. Currently, he channels his creative energies into Blue Flame, a blues-rock ensemble that showcases his versatility and deep-seated love for blues. His discography reflects a progressive evolution, starting with his debut EP, “Sketching” in 2021, followed by “Grass & Scroll” in 2022, which featured the renowned guest musician Derek Sherinian. Each release has been a testament to his growth as a guitarist and composer.

January 2023 marked a significant milestone with the release of his first full-length album, “Soaring Over Clay”. This body of work encapsulated Henry’s musical essence, drawing inspiration from legends like Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, the Scorpions, Ritchie Blackmore, and Randy Rhoads. It was a sonic tapestry of ’70s classic rock and ’80s metal, blended with his unique touch.

Amidst this rich discography, Henry’s latest offering, “Guitar Noodles”, stands out. Part of his new 4-track EP released in late August 2023, this track is currently on rotation on Tunedloud HitRadio. Unlike the high-energy anthems of his earlier inspirations, “Guitar Noodles” is a mellow, melancholy instrumental that evokes the smooth, laid-back vibes of Mark Knopfler and JJ Cale. It’s a testament to Henry’s ability to traverse different musical landscapes with ease.

“Guitar Noodles” is a journey in itself. The track opens with a gentle, lilting melody that immediately sets a contemplative tone. Henry’s guitar work, while technically impeccable, is profoundly emotive, each note resonating with a sense of wistful introspection. The influences of Knopfler and Cale are palpable, yet Henry infuses the piece with his distinct style, creating a soothing auditory experience that lingers long after the last note fades.

With “Guitar Noodles” and the accompanying EP, Henry van der Zwan continues to push the boundaries of his artistry. His music, deeply rooted in the rich traditions of rock and blues, is a reflection of his journey—one that has seen him evolve from a young guitarist in Haarlem to an accomplished musician with a global audience. As he continues to explore and innovate, fans can look forward to more evocative compositions that capture the essence of his multifaceted musical persona.

For those yet to experience the serene brilliance of “Guitar Noodles”, it’s a must-listen—a track that not only showcases Henry’s exceptional guitar skills but also his ability to convey deep emotion through music. This single is more than just a song; it’s an invitation into the world of Henry van der Zwan, where every chord tells a story, and every melody is a testament to his enduring passion for music.

In the ever-evolving landscape of blues rock, Henry Noodles is a beacon of innovation and authenticity. “Guitar Noodles” is a definitive statement of his artistic vision, one that promises to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of listeners. Dive into the mellow waves of “Guitar Noodles” and let Henry van der Zwan take you on an unforgettable musical journey.
