Brandon Watson – “Wiregrass Conspiracy” and “Daylight to Burn”
“When I was about 15 years old, I picked up this old acoustic guitar that my Dad had laying around the house. But honestly, I was never really that focused on learning how to “play” it. Yes, I’m paying for that now with some bad habits, but for me, the guitar wasn’t just an ‘instrument’. It was more like a book – with strings and resonating pages. When you strummed it, it would start revealing to you all these cool stories it had inside. And when that exploration of sounds and ideas started to coalesce into songs – I was hooked.
And it still hooks me today. I always refer to myself specifically as a songwriter, because that’s where my real joy comes from. Of course, I LOVE playing live. There is nothing better than when you make a connection with a live audience, and all of you are in sync, and you’re all sharing this unique musical vibe together. That’s awesome. But there is something in the act of creating a new song that is just as powerful a feeling to me.
My latest songwriting endeavor is The Wiregrass Conspiracy EP. Back in December 2017, I got to see Joe Bonnamassa live. I have always been a huge fan of his playing and his songwriting so I when I found out he had a tour date nearby, I was going to be there even if it snowed – which it did, actually.
And that concert set off an inspirational fire in me. From the moment the lights came on after the show, all I wanted to do was to get my hands on my guitar and start jamming some bluesy rock tunes. The result was The Wiregrass Conspiracy EP.” – Brandon Watson
