Eric Woodring – “Outrun Lonely”
“Outrun Lonely” is the leadoff track from the EP Eric Woodring released in June 2024. This particular EP is a throwback of sorts, paying homage to his very first LP, released 20 years ago. This tune drives in a Tom Petty sort of way, with some fantastic guitar playing.
Eric Woodring is a Texas-based traditional country musician and songwriter. Starting his music career in 1996 while attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, he quickly became a key figure in the local music scene. Woodring formed the Texas Speedbump Band in the late ’90s, gaining regional popularity.
After moving to New Braunfels, TX, he focused on songwriting and performing, often collaborating with Tommy Sheen. In Austin, he recorded his debut album “Lifemiles” in 2004 and toured the Southwest. Settling in Houston in 2006, he reunited with former bandmate Kyle Wright, later forming The Recollection, a Texas string-band, with Gerald Thurmond. Their high-energy performances and Texas-themed songs led to the release of two EPs, “This Is Texgrass!” (2017) and “True Texas True” (2019), produced with Jack Saunders and featuring notable guests.
In 2019, Woodring released “Jackson County Line,” showcasing his songwriting and vocal talent. He continued to release albums and singles, all charting on regional country radio. In 2024, celebrated the 20th anniversary of “Lifemiles” with a special EP “Lifemiles: Reboot”.
