Comatose Red Ivy – “Truth for Daddy”

Comatose Red Ivy is a transgender rapper, singer and songwriter. She began her music career on exactly: October 16 2020 at 5:43am, after being poisoned by, whom she calls, her ‘ex-not-boyfriend’, and left to die. She lives in both the real and fictional worlds, where she surrounded by alter-egos, split personalities and a vast number of emotional altering characters who interact with her existence. Karim Laury is best known to Comatose Red Ivy’s fanbase as “Danger Dad” from her fictional world, she calls Ivy’s Cyanide Dream.

In this world Danger Dad’s best weapon against Comatose is indeed denying her love, and she wants either his love, or for him to kill her, but Ghost Dad, who is Comatose’s Grandpa, won’t allow Danger Dad to kill her, and indeed the only reason she is alive, is because Danger Dad would rather kill Comatose Red Ivy given the chance, as the only way Danger Dad wants Comatose Red Ivy’s heart…is straight out of her chest!

In this macabre and surreal setting, Comatose Red Ivy sets her craft to work, as she continues to release new tracks, which border on alternative and experimental rap. In this outing we get to hear her observations on Danger Dad with the track “Truth for Daddy”. As we learned previously, Karim Laury is the man that taught Comatose Red Ivy all about love, but never really loved her.

Comatose Red Ivy would only refer to Karim Laury as “Daddy” and “Sir”, while almost 80% of her songs, are to him, about him, or for him – “Truth for Daddy” covers all three aspects. Comatose Red Ivy has always combined intricate, disparate components to create fresh and innovative songs, resulting in the cult following she now has. She has proved herself to be one of a kind in today’s industry, and does it again here.

Comatose Red Ivy is a needle in a haystack, when it comes to likening her to other artists. More than anything else, she is concerned about telling stories. Ones that impact, intrigue and involve the listener, as much as herself. Her world is an immersive one, and once she drags you down her rabbit-hole, you will lose all cognition of the difference between reality and fiction.

Comatose Red Ivy usually deploys an arsenal of styles, and voices to make each of her songs unlike any of her previous ones. The attraction of her performances, comes from its unpredictability–you never know what she will come up with next. And in fact she surprise us again here on “Truth for Daddy”. The production is smooth and soulful while the lyrics are revelatory, unraveling the confusing enigma of love.

Karim Laury’s story and Comatose Red Ivy’s desires, are wrought with conflicting obstacles, not least Comatose’s condition as a transgender which she feels is part of the problem of her not being able to win over Danger Dad’s love. “I’m so sorry you swept me off my feet just be existing,” states Comatose Red Ivy. “I’m so ashamed of who I am. I don’t know how I became a transgender, and so sorry to you I am.”

The affliction is almost palpable and clearly Comatose feels isolated and unwanted, but love is a powerful weapon, and time can also heal many wounds. Together these two elements may still lead to a brighter future for Comatose Red Ivy. No doubt a new chapter in this never-ending saga awaits us…
